SUMMARY:Reception - Julia Duke Quilts in the Crowell Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Crowell Art Gallery March exhibit features “A Return to Quilts”\, featuring a new assembly of quilts by local artist and craftswoman Julia Duke.  Beginning March 3rd and running through March 28th the walls of the gallery will be hung with colorful design and fanciful figures\, highlighting the popularity of combining function and artistic expression.\n\n\nSpeaking from her studio in Brookline Vermont\, “While making this particular collection of quilts\, I’ve been keenly aware of fabric patterns and designs.  Using fabric as a color palette is a given in quilt-making.  And yet\, each piece of fabric has its own unique combination of shapes and images and colors that a fabric designer has created.  For me\, each quilt has a mood based on its colors and what evolves from combining different fabrics.  Spending time handling and seeing different fabrics together while making quilts – the cutting\, sewing\, ironing\, arranging and rearranging\, gives me joy!”  There are an estimated 11 million active quilters in North America and the proportion of new quilters is up from 11% to 18%.\n\n\nAn artist reception will be held at the Crowell on March 7th\, 1 – 2:30.  Come join us for this popular and colorful exhibit\, the gallery is located in the rear of The Moore Free Library\, 23 West Street in Newfane\, Vermont.  Library & Gallery Hours: Tues 1-5\, Weds 1-5\, Thurs 1-6\, Fri 10-5\, Sat 10-1

SUMMARY:February Book Group
DESCRIPTION:The Book group will be joining on February 2nd to discuss “A Dangerous Fortune” by Ken Follett. \nA Synopsis from Goodreads: \n\n\n\n“In 1866\, tragedy strikes at the exclusive Windfield School. A young student drowns in a mysterious accident involving a small circle of boys. The drowning and its aftermath initiates a spiraling circle of treachery that will span three decades and entwine many lives. \nFrom the exclusive men’s club and brothels that cater to every dark desire of London’s upper classes to the dazzling ballrooms and mahogany-paneled suites of the manipulators of the world’s wealth\, Ken Follett conjures up a stunning array of contrasts. This breathtaking novel portrays a family splintered by lust\, bound by a shared legacy… men and women swept toward a perilous climax where greed\, fed by the shocking truth of a boy’s death\, must be stopped\, or not just one man’s dreams\, but those of a nation\, will die…” \n\n\n\n\nFor more information contact Deb Barry: debriverside@gmail.com

SUMMARY:December Book Group
DESCRIPTION:The MFL Book Club will meet on Monday\, December 1st to discuss The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende. \nA Synopsis from Goodreads:\n“In one of the most important and beloved Latin American works of the twentieth century\, Isabel Allende weaves a luminous tapestry of three generations of the Trueba family\, revealing both triumphs and tragedies. Here is patriarch Esteban\, whose wild desires and political machinations are tempered only by his love for his ethereal wife\, Clara\, a woman touched by an otherworldly hand. Their daughter\, Blanca\, whose forbidden love for a man Esteban has deemed unworthy infuriates her father\, yet will produce his greatest joy: his granddaughter Alba\, a beautiful\, ambitious girl who will lead the family and their country into a revolutionary future. \nThe House of the Spirits is an enthralling saga that spans decades and lives\, twining the personal and the political into an epic novel of love\, magic\, and fate.” \n  \nFor more information contact Deb Barry: debriverside@gmail.com
