The Figurative Expressionist paintings and prints of Claire Rosenfeld explore landscape
in expansive and dramatic settings. Influenced by strong light on land forms, they reveal
specific moments in time and place. Inspired by observation of mountains, waterfalls
and other natural phenomena, the work also draws upon memory and invention.
Occasionally figures and horses appear in the landscape, relating the gestures of human
and animal life to the visual rhythms of nature. Several of the works take the form of diptychs
or triptychs.
The monotypes (singular hand-painted prints), in both ink and encaustic (wax), include images
of the California fires and the Kilauea volcano eruptions in Hawaii. Additionally, there are
several still life paintings with flowers.
